Factors that decide cable size and construction: maximum operating voltage, load current, fault level and clearing time, overload duty, route length and voltage drop, installation method and ambient or ground temperature, soil conditions, and fire performance. Use the voltage drop calculator on the electrical page for a first check of drop.
Conductor short-circuit withstand for the cable size and fault duration, the minimum size for a given fault level, and the copper or aluminium weight.
Adiabatic method for the phase conductor only, valid for fault durations up to about 5 seconds, with the k values of IEC 60364-5-54. It does not size the screen or armour, and the current rating, voltage drop and installation conditions must be checked separately. Metal weight excludes insulation, sheath and armour. Gasify Middle East Trading LLC is a UAE-based industrial supplier of electrical cables for oil and gas, petrochemical, power, water and infrastructure projects. From offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai we support EPC contractors, electrical contractors, panel builders and plant procurement teams with power, control, instrumentation and fibre optic cables.
Our range covers HV and MV XLPE cables to IEC 60502-2, LV XLPE and PVC power cables to IEC 60502-1 and BS 5467, multicore control cables, panel wire and flexible cables to IEC 60227 and IEC 60245, instrumentation and thermocouple cables, FR, FRLS, LSZH and fire survival cables, and fibre optic cables to IEC 60794.
Projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC often reference operator specifications, approved manufacturer lists and inspection requirements. Gasify reviews these requirements against the cables you need, coordinates the documentation called for by the order, and supports the RFQ from technical clarification to delivery. Approval status is never assumed. Requirements are confirmed against each project's documents.
XLPE insulated cables run at 90 °C and withstand 250 °C in a short circuit, so they carry more current and tolerate faults better than PVC cables. Medium voltage cables from 3.6/6 kV to 18/30 kV use a conductor screen, XLPE insulation and an insulation screen with a copper tape or wire metallic screen, while LV cables at 0.6/1 kV are available armoured or unarmoured in copper and aluminium.
Steel wire or strip armour protects multicore cables in direct burial and exposed routes and can serve as the earth continuity path. Single core cables on AC systems need non-magnetic aluminium armour, because magnetic armour overheats from eddy currents.
Multicore control cables with numbered or coloured cores, single core panel wire, flexible multicore and rubber cables, and screened symmetrical VFD cables cover switchgear, motor control centres, control panels, machinery and drives.
Screened pair and triad instrumentation cables, with intrinsically safe blue sheath options, and thermocouple extension cables for K, J, T, N and E types carry field signals to DCS and SCADA systems.
FR and FRLS PVC cables limit flame spread and smoke, LSZH cables remove halogen gas and give low, less toxic smoke, and fire survival cables with glass mica tape keep emergency circuits running in a fire. Solar DC cables, anti-termite and mining cables are available on enquiry.
Cables rarely travel alone. Gasify can consolidate cables with cable glands, lugs, trays and earthing materials, fibre optic cables, instrumentation and structural steel in a single package, with phased deliveries to the UAE, GCC, Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Explore how we work on our project supply page or read about oil and gas supply.
Gasify sources power, control, instrumentation and fibre optic cables from established manufacturers and supports procurement from the UAE. Availability depends on cable type, size, voltage grade, conductor and quantity, so lead times and stock are confirmed for each RFQ.
Gasify supports procurement against project cable schedules and client specifications, including ADNOC and Saudi Aramco requirements where the project calls for them. Approved manufacturer and vendor list requirements are reviewed for each project. Gasify does not represent an approval status unless it is formally documented.
The range covers HV and MV XLPE power cables, LV XLPE and PVC power cables, multicore control cables, panel wire, flexible and VFD cables, instrumentation and thermocouple cables, fire-performance and special cables, and fibre optic cables.
XLPE is a cross-linked, thermosetting insulation that runs at 90 °C and withstands 250 °C in a short circuit, so it carries more current and handles faults better. PVC is thermoplastic, runs at 70 °C and costs less. XLPE is preferred for power cables, PVC for general wiring.
Copper has higher conductivity and mechanical strength, so a copper cable is smaller for the same current. Aluminium is lighter and costs less for large sizes, but needs correct lugs and bimetallic connectors. Use tinned copper where sulphur fumes can corrode plain copper.
Use armoured cable for direct burial, exposed routes and where mechanical protection is needed, and where the armour must serve as an earth continuity path. Unarmoured cable is enough on protected trays. Single core AC cables need non-magnetic aluminium armour.
FR cable limits flame spread. FRLS cable adds lower smoke emission, but it is still PVC, so some smoke and halogen gas remain. LSZH cable has no halogen and gives low, less toxic smoke. Fire survival cable keeps the circuit working for a stated time in a fire.
IEC grades such as 3.6/6 kV and 18/30 kV and Indian Standard grades such as 3.8/6.6 kV and 19/33 kV describe similar classes of cable. The first value is the voltage to earth and the second is between conductors. State the standard in the RFQ so the correct insulation thickness is supplied.
A screened, symmetrical VFD cable, with the screen terminated at both ends, reduces electromagnetic interference and bearing currents. Cable length and drive switching frequency affect the choice.
Compare the fault current and clearing time with the conductor's adiabatic withstand, which depends on the conductor material, the insulation and the cross-section. Use the calculator on this page for a quick check, and confirm with the project cable sizing calculation.
Cables come with routine test reports for each drum. Type-test reports for fire, smoke and construction, partial discharge tests for MV cables, third-party inspection and EN 10204-type certification of metal accessories can be arranged where the project specifies them.
